Age Calculator
Exact age in years, months, days — plus totals and next birthday.
How old are you — really? '32' hides whether you are 32 years and 2 days or 32 years and 11 months, a gap that matters for school cut-offs, driving licences, pensions, marathon categories, and insurance bands. This age calculator turns any date of birth into an exact years–months–days age, plus total days, weeks, months, hours, the weekday you were born, and a live countdown to your next birthday.
Calendar maths is trickier than it looks. Months are 28–31 days, February gains a day every leap year, and borrowing days across month boundaries trips up spreadsheet formulas (try =DATEDIF in Excel on a Feb-29 birthday). Our calculator implements proper calendar borrowing — the same logic registrars use — so leap-day babies, month-ends and century boundaries all come out right. It runs entirely in your browser with timezone-safe midnight handling.
Pick your birth date and, optionally, an 'age at date' (great for 'how old will I be on 1 July 2030?' or outlining a CV). Press Calculate for the full breakdown. No account, no tracking — dates never leave your device.

Time & Date →How exact age is computed
Subtract year, month and day separately, then fix negatives by borrowing. If the day difference is negative, borrow the length of the previous month (28–31 days) and reduce months by one. If months are then negative, borrow 12 months and reduce years by one. Totals come from millisecond difference ÷ 86,400,000, and leap years are inherent because real calendar dates are used.
- DOB: Date of birth (YYYY-MM-DD). Feb 29 is honoured; non-leap anniversaries fall on Feb 28.
- As-of: Reference date — defaults to today. Future as-of answers 'age on' questions.
- Totals: Total days/weeks/hours lived, useful for milestones (10,000 days ≈ 27.4 years).
Worked example: born 14 Feb 1998, as of 14 Sep 2026
Step through the borrowing method the tool uses:
- Raw subtract: years 2026−1998 = 28; months 9−2 = 7; days 14−14 = 0.
- No borrowing needed: age = 28 years, 7 months, 0 days.
- Totals: 10,441 days (≈ 1,491 weeks, 343 months, ~250,584 hours).
- Born on a Saturday; next birthday 14 Feb 2027 is 153 days away.
- Milestone check: 10,000th day of life was around 2 July 2025.
Result: 28 years, 7 months, 0 days — 10,441 days lived, born Saturday.
How to use this age calculator
Two dates, full biography in numbers.
Step 1: Enter date of birth
Use the date picker or type YYYY-MM-DD. Double-check year — a one-digit slip adds a decade.
Step 2: Optionally set 'age at date'
Leave blank for today, or pick a future/past date for eligibility checks, retirement math, or historical figures.
Step 3: Press Calculate
Read years–months–days plus totals, birth weekday, and next-birthday countdown.
Step 4: Use Reset to compare
Clear and run siblings, applicants, or pets side-by-side without stale values.
Practical uses
When exact age beats 'about 30':
School & exams
Cut-offs like 'must be 5 by 1 September' hinge on days. Parents check reception eligibility and 11-plus windows here first.
Driving, voting, pensions
17 for UK driving, 18 for voting, State Pension age rising to 67 — day-exact checks prevent rejected applications.
HR & compliance
Right-to-work, minimum wage bands (under-18/18–20/21+), and DBS rules all key off exact age on a given date.
Sport categories
Youth leagues group by age on 31 August or 1 January. A days-level check decides U12 vs U13.
Milestones & parties
10,000 days, 1,000 weeks, golden birthdays (turning 27 on the 27th) — totals make memorable celebrations.
Pro tips
Get registrar-grade accuracy:
- Use the birth certificate date, not the hospital bracelet — registrations occasionally shift by a day.
- For Feb-29 birthdays, celebrate legally on Feb 28 or Mar 1 per local rules; the calculator counts Feb 28 in non-leap years.
- Need age in decimals? Divide total days by 365.25 (e.g. 10,441 ÷ 365.25 ≈ 28.59 years) for medical dosing.
- Cross-check IDs: if DOB and 'age 32' disagree, trust the DOB and recompute — forms often lag birthdays.
- Export the breakdown (screenshot) for HR files — it shows method, not just a number.
Common mistakes
Why DIY age maths goes wrong:
Dividing days by 30
Months are not 30 days. 90 days is not '3 months' across Feb–Apr. Borrow real month lengths instead.
Ignoring leap days
Over 30 years you live ~7–8 leap days. Year × 365 shortcuts undercount by a full week.
Timezone midnight bugs
Naive date parsing can shift birthdays by a day near midnight UTC. We pin to local midnight to avoid it.
Future DOB typos
Typing 2026 instead of 1962 gives a negative age error — the tool blocks future DOBs with a clear message.
