About DailyCalc
Why we show the working
Many calculator sites give you a number and nothing else. That's fine for a quick sum, but not when the number is a loan repayment or a health measure. Each of our 30 calculators shows the formula it uses, works through an example, explains when the result is useful and lists the mistakes people commonly make.
Before a calculator goes live, its maths is tested against known correct answers. Each guide also lists the sources it was checked against, such as the WHO, the Reserve Bank of India, the CDC, the GST Council and the US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, so you can look them up yourself.
People use the site for all sorts of everyday questions: checking a stacked discount at the checkout, comparing two loan offers, confirming a school admission cut-off date, or working out a rent rise as a percentage.
What every calculator page includes
- 1The calculator. Enter your numbers and get the result, with a clear message if an input is wrong.
- 2Formula and example. The formula explained, plus a worked example using realistic numbers.
- 3A short guide. How to use it, when it helps, tips and common mistakes.
- 4Sources. The references we checked it against, and the date it was last updated.
